Over 400 North Tyneside shoppers have chosen their favourite yuletide displays.

North Tyneside Council's annual Best Dressed Window competition began earlier this month, and for the first time the winners were judged by residents online, rather than by the council.

And on Tuesday, December 20, Misoni hairdressers in North Shields, Acorn Computer Recycling in Wallsend, NTDF community shop in Whitley Bay and Ice Box at the Whitley Bay Ice Rink were announced as the winners for their individual categories.

John Fleet, North Tyneside Council's town centre manager, said: "I would like to congratulate the four winners, and say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the competition.

"We've had some great entries this year, which has encouraged shoppers to visit the borough in the run up to Christmas, by creating a lively and vibrant festive atmosphere."

The winners were:

Wallsend
1. Acorn recycling
2. West Street News
3. Classic Trendz

Whitley Bay
1. NTDF
2. 129 Coffee Shop
3. Martin and Co

North Shields
1. Misoni
2. Wishing Well
3. The Church Shop

Businesses not in a town centre

1. Ice Box at the Whitley Bay Ice Rink
2. Fezziwigs in Tynemouth
3. Kenzai Holistics in Cullercoats

Each of the winning businesses will receive £50 while the second and third in each category will pick up £30 and £20 respectively.

All voters were entered into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to a show of their choice at PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay, which was won by David Miller, from Longbenton.
