Today our Signing In Project hosted a Deaf Awareness afternoon which included a talk by Pauline Bosson - head of Audiology at the Freeman Hospital who talked about local audiology services & how to access them - some very helpful information.
Ken Baker, a member of the tinnitus support group also launched a new leaflet created by the group which features information and advice on coping with tinnitus and is available from NTDF.
We all had a chance to learn and practice some sign language with help from the weekly signing group we have here at NTDF.
The deaf issues drama group performed a funny yet very informative sketch which showed some of the problems that d/deafened people face & music was provided by Dave Ellsion and the Songs For All signed singers which was - as usual - excellent!
Further helpful information on deaf issues was available from guests we had from the Tyne & Wear Fire Service, the Employment Advisory Service, Cued Speech with Carly Simpson & the Mental Health and Deafness team.
A fun, friendly and informative afternoon had by all. If you would like to get involved with NTDF's Signing In Project you can contact us on 01912008570 or email [email protected] and you can visit our Groups & Activities page here on our website fr more information about activities at NTDF.
